Hosts Ghana have reached the final of the WAFU Zone ‘B’ tournament after a 2-1 win over neighbours Burkina Faso in the ultimate Group ‘A’ match on Monday (November 25) in Kumasi.Midfielder Yahaya Mohamed scored the winner on 54 minutes after Burkina goalie Mohamed Kabore had cancelled out Godfred Saka’s 18th minute opener.The image-saving win for the Ghanaians was enough to see them through to the decider after contenders Benin were held to a 2-2 draw by Sierra Leone in the mining city of Obuasi.
The Local Black Stars finished on six points, with Benin (five points), Burkina Faso (four points) and Sierra Leone (one point) in that order in Group A.Ghana will meet the top-placed team from Group B in the final on Thursday, November 28 in Kumasi.Senegal, Niger, Liberia and Togo are the other teams in Group B. The runners-up from each group will face-off in the third-place game. The eight-nation tournament is also to gauge the preparations of Ghana and Burkina Faso for next year’s Orange African Nations Championship in South Africa.
