Nyantakyi re-elected WAFU “B” head


CAF Executive Committee member, Kwesi Nyantakyi has been re-elected president of the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone ‘B’ for a two-year term.Nyantakyi, who doubles as president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was retained unopposed at the congress on the zonal body held on Wednesday (November 27) in Ghana’s second largest city, Kumasi. He has headed the zonal body since 2011.He disclosed to delegates that the union has made great strides the last few years despite the limited resources at their disposal and also hinted at the revival of the competitions for member associations and training programmes for coaches.
“I am happy to inform delegates that our annual WAFU competitions have come to stay. In spite of our limited financial resources we are determined to making it successful every year,” highlighting a three-year sponsorship with South African pay television outfit, SuperSport.Delegates also approved for the extension of the mandate of the term of office to four years upon endorsement at the next congress. WAFU Zone ‘B’ is constituted by Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Togo.Meanwhile, host Ghana will face Senegal in the final 2013 WAFU Cup of Nations on Thursday (November 28) in Kumasi. Neighbours’ Benin and Togo will slug it in the battle for bronze.
